On Thursday afternoon, July 30, a tractor trailer and a car crashed on U.S. 64 in Davie County.
According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol the accident happened on U.S. Highway 64 near Koontz Road.
The Highway Patrol went on to say that 27 year old Tony Dale Weavil Jr., of Lexington, was driving a Kia and it was he who caused the crash with a semi tractor trailer being driven by 65 year old Malcom Elwood Brower of High Point. Once the vehicles had collided the tractor trailer caught fire and as it was carrying cardboard the fire spread quickly and was difficult to extinguish.
Both Weavil and Brower were taken to hospital and both are expected to survive.
It appears that Weavil was on prescription medication at the time of the crash and he has now been charged with Driving While Impaired.
U.S. 64 was closed for several hours following the crash.
