How to Help Following a Motor Vehicle Crash

Throughout the United States, motor vehicle crashes are one of the main causes of fatalities and severe injuries with over 30,000 deaths a year and over two million injuries.

Many of the deaths occur as those involved do not receive immediate medical attention or first aid, so if you come across an accident where someone is injured, if you know what to do you could save a life.

First you should check yourself to make sure you have not been injured as you need to be fit to help others. Check you can move your limbs and that you are not faint or dizzy which can indicate a head injury. Then check other people for injuries by slowly going over the whole body to check for bleeding. If several people have been injured begin with the one who is quietest as the chances are they are the most seriously injured.

Talk to the injured person and ask their name to check for head injuries and then look for signs that the person is breathing and has a pulse. If so, there is no need for CPR.

How to Adjust to Life Without a Car

As we get older, several things in life have to change, one of which might be adjusting to life without a car, as driving becomes simply too dangerous due to a lack of the physical and mental skills needed to drive.

While it can be frustrating at first not to have a vehicle it can have positive benefits to your health and your pocket. No more having to spend a fortune on owning a car paying out for such things as insurance, registration, gasoline and maintenance.

In addition, the alternative methods of getting from A to B can be very healthy such as walking and cycling. The extra exercise can boost energy, improve confidence, help with stiff joints and promote better sleep patterns.

It is essential to find alternatives to driving or you may become more introverted and housebound and this can lead to depression. If there is no public transport available to get to doctors appointments or the supermarket shop don’t be shy about asking a neighbor or friend for a ride, and offer to pay for the gas or cook a meal for them in return.

Salisbury Man Hit by a Car

On Tuesday, September 1, a Salisbury man was sent to hospital in critical condition following being hit by a car.

According to North Carolina Highway Patrol, Brian Isenhour was trying to cross the U.S 221 South, near Boxcar Grille at around 9.25pm when he was hit by a 2007 Toyota being driven by Anwer Gillani.

Isenhour had apparently argued with his girlfriend while driving down 1-40 towards Salisbury and insisted that she stop the car to let him out. He then began to walk down the 221, while his girlfriend remained on the I-40 and at some point he crossed the road into the path of Gillian’s oncoming vehicle. Unfortunately, as Gillani’s vehicle was travelling at 45 mph he did not have time to break and struck Isenhour causing him to land on the right shoulder of the roadway sustaining life threatening injuries.

Paramedics who attended the scene transferred Isenhour to Mission’s Trauma Center in Asheville.

Gillani was not charged in relation to the incident, nor did he suffer any injuries.

Tractor Trailer and a Car Crashed

On Thursday afternoon, July 30, a tractor trailer and a car crashed on U.S. 64 in Davie County.

According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol the accident happened on U.S. Highway 64 near Koontz Road.

The Highway Patrol went on to say that 27 year old Tony Dale Weavil Jr., of Lexington, was driving a Kia and it was he who caused the crash with a semi tractor trailer being driven by 65 year old Malcom Elwood Brower of High Point. Once the vehicles had collided the tractor trailer caught fire and as it was carrying cardboard the fire spread quickly and was difficult to extinguish.

Both Weavil and Brower were taken to hospital and both are expected to survive.

It appears that Weavil was on prescription medication at the time of the crash and he has now been charged with Driving While Impaired.

U.S. 64 was closed for several hours following the crash.

Accidents Involving Defective Vehicles

There seems to be no end to the headlines about defective vehicles and massive recalls. What is even more frightening than the known defective vehicles on the road is the fact that you never know if the vehicle you drive, ride in, or get near while you are out has a defect that has not yet been detected.

Types of Defects

Some defects, such as faulty tires and ignition switch defects, can cause accidents. Crashworthiness defects, such as faulty seatbelts or poor roof crush resistance, cause injuries to be worse in the event of an accident.

There are also defects that can both cause accidents and cause injuries to be worse in an accident. For instance, a defective airbag can cause an accident by deploying when it shouldn’t, and it can cause injuries to be worse by failing to deploy or by deploying in a way that causes injuries.

Less common are defects that can cause the vehicle to catch on fire when it is not even running. Although rare, the consequences can be deadly. A burning vehicle that is parked in a garage or very near a home can cause a house fire.

If you or someone you love has been have been seriously injured in an accident involving a defective vehicle, you may be entitled to substantial compensation.
