Over the Thanksgiving holiday period fourteen people died in 12 fatal road traffic accidents in North Carolina.
The Thanksgiving break began at 6 p.m. on the Wednesday and ended at midnight on the Sunday November 29. Those who died included two in Davidson County, in an accident which happened at around 7 p.m. near Hickory Tree Road, near Midway on Thanksgiving Day, November 26.
Miguel Abinadab Morato Torres, aged 28, of Lexington was driving a Honda Civic with a 26 year old passenger, Patricia Rodriguez of Indiana as his passenger. He was driving south on U.S. 52 at an estimated 100 mph when he crashed the vehicle and they were both killed. Troopers say that speed was the major factor in the crash.
Last year during the Thanksgiving holiday period, there were 14 fatal collisions, resulting in 21 deaths.
